Flora and Fauna

The Ocean Grove Nature Reserve supports over 300 plant and 200 animal species, including some that are listed as globally and internationally endangered such as Swift Parrot, Bellarine Yellow Gum and Bibron’s Toadlet. Of local conservation significance are plants such as the Prickly Geebung and Pale Turpentine Bush, believed to be found nowhere else on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Listen for the songs of woodland birds and the croaks of frogs calling for a mate. Be enchanted by kaleidoscopes of butterflies emerging in spring and look carefully for lizards basking in the sun. Encounter plants that range from colourful wildflowers to ancient grass trees and old established eucalypts. Plant and wildlife encounters are a great way to connect with nature and to appreciate the rich biodiversity of the reserve.
